Resources
My calling in ministry is expository preaching and Bible teaching. I am versed in Greek and Hebrew as a basis for that, and I am a life-long theologically oriented learner. My recently read books consist of Impossible People, Os Guinness; Renaissance, also by Os Guinness; The Crucified Life, by A.W. Tozer; and Enjoying Intimacy with God, by Oswald Sanders. I have had the privilege of speaking at week-end and prayer retreats related to these kinds of materials.

Probably the greatest amount of time spent outside of preaching, teaching and shepherding is with music and assisting in the development of younger people in the worship ministry. The church I planted and pastored for many years has three worship teams and about twenty individuals involved in various aspects of that ministry.

Ministry Experience
2014 to 2018
Pastor Emeritus: First Baptist Church of Windsor, Windsor, CA.
For the past four years I have been providing pulpit supply for six local churches in the Northern California area. Three years ago, I planted the Redwood Bible Institute in my home church, writing the curriculum and teaching weekly classes in systematic theology, church history and Bible interpretation. In 2018 I created a sacred music program for the Windsor Christian Academy associated with First Baptist of Windsor. The focus of that effort has been the creation of a chapel worship team for 4th to 8th grade students
2002 to 2014
Senior Pastor: Ukiah Bible Church, Ukiah, CA.
Ministry responsibilities include preaching, teaching, shepherding, worship leading, and the on-going administration of church activities.
2002 to 2008
Board Member: The Cornerstone Seminary, Vallejo, CA.
In 2002, I was one of five local church pastors who gathered to discuss and pray about the possibility of planting a seminary to meet the pastoral needs in northern California. The result was the birth of The Cornerstone Seminary located in Vallejo. I was the board chairman for the first five years and taught courses in homiletics and worship theology.
2000 to 2002
Director of Admissions, Retention and Placement: The Master’s Seminary, Los Angeles, CA.
As a member of the administrative faculty, I screened new seminary applicants and mentored current students. Upon their graduation I assisted with their placement in churches around the world. Those duties were supplemented with teaching in the homiletics department.
2001 to 2002:
Interim Pastor: The Fillmore Bible Church, Fillmore, CA.
During my employment at The Master’s Seminary I was asked to develop new leadership and lead a struggling church through a time of transition between pastors. I was their full-time interim and worship leader for one year.
1994 to 2000
Church Planter: Ukiah Bible Church, Ukiah, CA.
The planting of an independent, self-supported, Bible church in rural northern California. Duties involved preaching, teaching, shepherding, administration and worship leading.

1991 to 1993.
Associate Pastor: Redwood Valley Community Church, Redwood Valley, CA.
Duties involved the oversight of the education and youth ministries as well as worship leading in the Sunday morning services.
In 1988 I retired from my law enforcement career, moved to Los Angeles with my family, and attended The Master’s Seminary. Upon graduation three years later, I began my ministry as an associate pastor of youth and Christian education at the Redwood Valley Community Church in Redwood Valley, California. I also began leading worship in the Sunday morning services. I was ordained as a minister of the gospel by that church, January twenty-sixth, 1992.

After Shirley and I married, she went on to become a registered nurse. In that capacity she participated in five medical missions to third world countries. Her heart’s desire, commensurate with her spiritual gifting, is to teach and encourage women to love God, their husbands, and their children.

We raised two daughters in the faith who also went on to marry. As of this date, they have increased the size of our family with seven grandchildren. My oldest daughter is an R.N., Nurse Practitioner, and married to a Master’s Seminary graduate. My youngest daughter is a home-maker and works part-time in public relations for a private business.
My wife and I were married in 1971 and we are celebrating our 49th Anniversary in July 2019. We live in Fort Bragg, California.
After giving my life to Jesus in 1972 I went into full time ministry in the Eureka ministry called; "Gospel Outreach". I moved my family to Eureka and lived communally for 3 years and served as Radiance Media Director over a Christian Tape lending library. During that time I had the opportunity to record some of my original music and it was used to ecnourage many in the mission field.

We moved back to Mendocino California in 1980 and joined a ministry called: "Antioch Ranch" We have lived in close community for many years. We have raised 4 children in the Northern California area. We now have 12 grand children and 4 great grand children.
From a very early time in my walk with Jesus I knew I was called to lead and encourage worship in the Body Of Christ. Like many other musicians once I drew close to throne of God with my musical talent nothing else could be more fulfilling.

At the present I am attending the Fort Bragg Grace Community Church. I also help with 4 other churches in the area when needed. My burden is to see the worship teams in our local area find resouces and encouragement.

Rick and I share the same vision for working with musicians and pastors in the area. Bringing worship teams together to discuss needs and training can be fun and very valuable to the teams growing with a Biblical perspective.

Rick Oliver and Rense Miller share a common vision.
As you get to know Rick and Rense you will see that they share a common vision for the local churches in and around the Lake and Mendocino counties. After attending many large conferences in the Northern California area it became very apparent that the needs and desires of the small churches could only be addressed by leadership familiar with the particular environments and communities that they were pastoring.
